Dust, solar radiation or simply the passage of time - these are some of the factors that influence the condition of plastics inside the car. Plastic dressing is a preparation that will protect and restore the shine of the cabin. How does it work and how to use it?

What is plastic dressing?

The interior of the car is not exposed to as many harmful factors as the body. It does not have to deal with rain or snowfall, stone impacts, road dust or insects digging into the paint.

Nevertheless, there are many reasons that should encourage us to clean the interior of the car regularly. We bring dirt from the outside inside. Dust may settle on the cockpit. A spilled drink can make your dashboard sticky.

Moreover, it is simply more pleasant to travel in a clean interior. The health aspect is also important. Bacteria, fungi and mites can grow in a neglected car. Dirt also causes the windows to fog up. Temperature changes and solar radiation also affect the interior of the car. Plastic elements may fade or even crack.

Plastic dressing will help maintain or restore the good condition of plastics. This preparation, also called interior dressing, is an agent used in the detailing process. Dressing for plastics makes it easier to keep the interior clean and creates a special protective layer.

It can be used for various types of materials, including soft ones, which are often used to make the dashboard or door panels. Interior dressing is best used in the final phase of cleaning the inside of the car and in combination with others detailing preparations.

What are the advantages of using dressings?

What characterizes a good one? cockpit dressing? First of all, it regenerates plastics. It restores their color depth, making the materials look like they left the factory.

Interior dressing also serves as a preservative. Thanks to it, plastics will resist the passage of time longer. The protective layer created after applying the cockpit dressing will make it easier to clean the car's interior during the next detailing session.

In addition, high-quality interior dressing contains protective filters. They protect plastics against UV radiation, and thus against discoloration and fading.

Dressing for plastics can also keep the interior smelling pleasant for longer. Fragrance additives are often included in the composition of this type of preparations.

How to prepare your car for applying plastic dressing?

Although the plastic dressing itself can be used as a preparation for cleaning the interior of the car, the best results will be achieved if we use other car cosmetics before using it.

What's the best place to start? We take out all items from door pockets and compartments and then clean the recesses. Let's shake out the rugs and vacuum the upholstery and floor.

Then we clean all plastic surfaces. We can choose one of many for this purpose dashboard cleaners and plastics. If the interior isn't very dirty and has been recently cleaned, they may be enough soaked cockpit cloths. Otherwise, it will be better to use plastic cleaning spray and/ or aerosol cockpit preparation.

Alternatively we can use Services, i.e. a concentrated agent for cleaning all types of surfaces. This type of preparation is often used by detailing specialists and can deal with even heavy dirt.

Why clean the interior of your car before applying plastic dressing? This will help us prepare plastic surfaces better. We will get rid of volatile particles that may interfere with work. We will avoid streaks. Interior dressing applied to the cleaned surface will protect the plastics for longer and bring out their original color better.

How to use plastic dressing?

The application of plastic dressing is relatively simple. Before starting detailing work, we should equip ourselves with: microfiber cloths.

We start by mixing the preparation well. After shaking vigorously a few times, the dressing should be ready to use. Then we apply it to a specific element. We make sure to thoroughly cover the plastic surface. Once we have applied the preparation to the plastic, we spread it evenly with a microfiber cloth. We collect any excess agent.

We leave the cabin to dry and wait for the effect. Most often, it is enough to apply one layer of plastic dressing. If a given fragment is clearly faded and stands out from the rest, we can apply the dressing again.

This type of preparation can also be used for external plastics, such as door strips or bumpers. The procedure is similar to the one we follow when cleaning the interior of the car. In this case, car cosmetics will consist in washing the body, including removing deeper dirt, e.g. insect remnants. After tidying up the body, apply the dressing.

Moreover, it is also available tire dressing. It preserves tires and allows you to obtain the so-called wet tire effect.

Cockpit dressing is a good way to regenerate plastics in an older car and protect plastic elements in a new car. It is worth using interior dressing at regular intervals, for example every three months, during major interior maintenance works.
