Hot car interior – 5 tips on how to deal with it?

In winter, we longed for summer, and when it came, we were tired of the sun and looked for shelter. Our car can be such a place to cool down. Naturally, although unfortunately not for everyone, the one equipped with air conditioning. Today I will share some tips on how to maintain a pleasant temperature inside when the heat outside the window melts the asphalt.
Warm car interior - Park in the shade
Every day I try to avoid parking spaces under trees. Of course, nature will do its job :) But on hot days like now, it's worth the risk. The leaves create a protective umbrella, and the temperature difference compared to the open space can be several degrees. On the other hand, body paint exposed to harsh sunlight is also not the best idea. Of course, the ideal solution is a covered parking lot. However, regardless of where I live, one rule applies - if "something" appears on the hood of the car, I try to remove it as quickly as possible, e.g. cloth for difficult dirt.
Let's use additional protection of the car against heating
Traditionally, there is a foil cover on the windshield of the car. UNIVERSAL ANTI-FROST/SOLAR WINDOW COVER FOR ALL YEARS is used all year round! The same one that provided protection against the formation of a layer of ice in winter. This time we will use its properties to reflect sunlight. Do you remember the rules of covering the injured person with a thermal blanket? To protect it against overheating, e.g. sunstroke, the inside is gold and the outside is silver.
A universal window cover is a product that every driver should have in their car. It is useful all year round, and its properties in winter and summer are invaluable. Thanks to its large dimensions, it can be used both to protect windows and as a thermal insulation blanket. Due to its properties, it will undoubtedly help protect the car interior from overheating. Just place it on the front and side windows. The silver layer will effectively reflect sunlight, and the inner layer of insulation will not allow heat to penetrate. By masking the windows, the sun will not penetrate the interior of the car. This will protect the seats, dashboard and other equipment from heating up. The cover also protects the interior against harmful effects UV rays, which have a devastating effect on the upholstery or cockpit.
Unfortunately, my car does not have tinted rear windows, so in the summer I use additional ones sun visors. These are the ones that some drivers use when traveling with children. For me, they have universal applications. The set is complemented by glasses with good quality lenses with a UV filter.
Air circulation in the passenger cabin
Today, air conditioning in a car is nothing special. She is no stranger to the hot interior of a car. We are happy to use it, but its effectiveness depends primarily on our regularity in inspections and maintenance. This topic was already on the blog when preparing the car for spring. Now let's focus on using it wisely. What I mean?

When getting into a hot car, first open the windows and then start the engine and air conditioning. Now we can wait a few moments, or better yet, drive a dozen or so meters. During this time, the chemical compounds created in the heated air conditioning system - no, it is not about fungi and bacteria - will evaporate and will not go directly into our exhaust system. At the same time, the existing air will be exchanged faster through open windows.
A sudden change in temperature is also a major threat to our health. Both when we get into the car and want to cool down as quickly as possible, and when getting out of a cold interior on hot days. A cold will be a trivial symptom at the risk of getting thermal shock. That's why, despite the wide temperature range in the air conditioning system, I stick to the setting between 20-21 degrees. When leaving the car, I do not forget to cover my head. Even if you're just going out for shopping, place the universal cover over your windshield. Contrary to appearances, the temperature inside the car can reach over 40°C in an hour! Therefore, it is better to protect them from the sun by spreading out a universal cover.
What if it's a cloudy day in summer? Use a cover or not?
In summer we also experience weather changes, cloudiness and cooling. However, even on a cloudy day, the car heats up similarly. In summer, the sun shines higher in the sky and its effects are more intense. Even from behind the clouds, it can heat up surfaces, and when the weather clears, it works at full power. Therefore, even on rainy and cloudy days, it is worth using a cover. The weather may change throughout the working day. Therefore, it is better to be cautious and protect the glass and the interior against sunlight.
Let's take care of ourselves, passengers and... the radiator
At such high air temperatures, proper hydration of the body is very important. You cannot forget about this also when driving a car. Therefore, I always have a small bottle of water at hand, which should also be protected from sunlight and should not be kept for too long after opening. It is also worth having water for passengers and animals being transported - in this case, a bowl will be indispensable.

By the way, I can't understand that you can leave a child or a dog in a hot car?! When we see such a situation, we have an obligation to react - from notifying the police to breaking the window in the vehicle.
Regarding the child traveling in a car seat. Let's check in advance whether the metal elements of the harness and belts are not hot. It's better to burn your hand than to put a toddler on it. Moreover, we can also touch such elements in the car, e.g. aluminum door handles or decorative strips in the cockpit or the gear lever. Heated leather upholstery may pose a threat.
Our car's radiator also requires proper hydration. There was already a blog post about the fluid itself, checking its condition, replacing and inspecting the entire system. It is worth visiting it, not only before a holiday trip. Constant starting and braking in city traffic jams also put a significant strain on the engine all year round. Let alone in the heat of summer.
Now you know what to do if your car interior is hot. I wish you to keep a cool assessment of the situation on the road!
