How to save space in the car?

Car wipes

I bet each of us drivers has faced this dilemma more than once. This is regardless of whether your car belongs to the supermini, compact, crossover or large van segment. There will always be not enough space on board, and we will respond to this observation by saying that we only carry what we need. Today, let's talk about an idea on how to limit the amount and volume of car cosmetics, while leaving basic products within reach.

How to save space in your car – From the article you will learn:

  • Which car cosmetics are best for basic car equipment?
  • What types of car wipes are there and how to use them properly?
  • How else can they be used?
  • How to store a mini set of car cosmetics?

Excess luggage with a basket of car cosmetics

I devote a lot of space on the blog to topics related to taking care of every detail of the car. And it is known that for this you need a whole arsenal of washing, cleaning and preserving agents, as well as accessories such as a bucket, cloths and sponges. However, this does not mean that we have to carry all this in the trunk. Firstly - it's a waste of space, secondly - why should we keep inhaling the escaping chemicals, thirdly - it likes to make noise while driving, fourthly - in the event of an accident, any such object poses a real threat to us and the passengers.

And yet, in the so-called meantime, we often have to reach for one of the products because something got dirty. In fact, I receive such encouragement from individual entries on the blog, especially when it comes to systematically removing contaminants from body paint or windows. Or - who will admit that they have not experienced this at least once in the car - accidental dirt after eating fast food or spilled drinks.

In such situations, disposable towels are necessary, but wet wipes are an even better solution. Such as those we get with a meal on board an airplane or intended for infant hygiene. Following this lead, car cosmetics manufacturers have introduced wipes soaked with an appropriate preparation into their offer.

Cockpit cloths

Cleaning cloths

While in the case of car cleaning and care products in traditional packaging, we have a very large offer, there are definitely fewer wipes. Both in terms of assortment and manufacturers. For me, the basic set consists of wipes soaked in the preparation cockpit (shiny or my favorite matte), for windows (as well as mirrors and reflectors, including those made of plastic), for upholstery (fabric or leather) and for difficult dirt (you know what kind). Although in this case they will also be perfect for drying your hands. My last case - after topping up the air pressure in the wheels.

Usually, the wipes are packed in reusable plastic bags. This is their huge advantage - we simply peel off the front label, take out the one item we need and stick it back on. Thanks to this, the packaging remains tight and the contents remain moisturized. The cloths themselves are white, and after use - which is important for me - they do not leave any white fibers behind. And that's why I don't like paper towels, especially those found at gas stations.

Of course, the cloths are disposable and end up in the trash after use. The packaging itself is small and flexible enough to fit in any drawer or nook in the car. My car has several such strategic places. Those for windows and upholstery in the glove compartment, those for the cockpit in the central armrest, and those for dirty dirt in the side door pocket. An alternative is the trunk organizer, which I have already mentioned many times.

How long does such a package last? It all depends on how often I need to use it. The wipes I choose are packed in packs of 15 or 24 pieces. Effectively, I can compare them to a 200 ml aerosol.

When are they particularly useful to me?

When I do general cleaning in my car, I use spray, aerosol, liquid cosmetics and cleaning milk. I have my set in the garage. However, when I travel, I do not undertake such demanding work. Then wipes soaked in cleaning agent work best. I can immediately clean newly appearing dirt and get rid of unwanted dust. I also use wipes every day. Even during a short commute to work, I can notice dirt on the cockpit or windows. I park in the parking lot and the problem is solved in a few seconds. I also use wipes when I'm in a hurry, which happens relatively often. I don't have to wet the cloth, rub the cleaning agent into the surface and then rinse with water. This is why I choose wipes as the basic equipment in my car. Importantly, they are not problematic for me as excess baggage.

Not only for the car

I also use the same cloths to clean other motor vehicles and surfaces. Difficult dirt works, for example, on mechanical parts of a bicycle, and those on the cockpit, on its frame. And during longer bike trips, they can be easily packed into a backpack or pannier. Motorcyclists can use them in a similar way, e.g. for windows on the helmet visor.

Cloths for difficult dirt They are also great companions when traveling by train or bus. Glass cleaners can be used to wipe the screen of a smartphone or laptop, while cockpit cleaners will restore the shine of many sports equipment. They are so universal that I even use them at home. They are perfect for removing dust from plastic surfaces or cleaning glass table tops. I also use the upholstery ones to refresh the sofa and armchairs in the living room. Each of you probably has your own needs for them. Anyone want to share their ideas?

A perfect place for car cosmetics

I have already partially mentioned where I store the practical wipes that we use every day to care for the interior of my car. You already know that it can be a glove compartment, an armrest or a door pocket. There are a lot of possibilities, but it does not always help in organizing the car space. That's why organizers come to the rescue in such situations, very practical and also available in several variants. Nets that can be attached to the back of the front seat, the back of the car, or in the trunk work great. If you have enough space, put your car cosmetics in, for example, a small suitcase or bag with several compartments and pockets to keep things organized. However, remember to always have them at hand. It is worth having them all in one place or at least in one zone of the vehicle. You will avoid the hassle of finding them and you will not forget that you have them with you.
